Travelling With Cancer

Travelling with an illness can be very risky, especially if you a cancer patient. Should you decide to travel, you must be aware with the risks that go with it. Your family should be extra careful and must take the necessary precautions.  Cancer patients are susceptible to infection, swelling,  blood clots and fatigue.  No one can really tell the extent of the risks and its consequences since it varies from one patient to another; however, below advise might be of help to decrease the possibility of risk.

Checking about your destination.  See to it that you have a knowledge about your destination. Some countries require certain vaccinations. Researching about your destination will help you identify precautions that you should take.

Coordinating and working with your physician.  Before traveling, check with your doctor.  Consult your doctor whether it is safe for your condition to travel or should it be done when you completely recovered.   If the doctor tells you it is fine, ask for necessary vaccinations that you need to go through.  You should also ask for additional precautionary measures that you need to know while you are in a travel.

Keeping your skin safe and protected.  It is necessary for cancer patients to be  careful with their skin.  They should avoid being exposed to the heat of the sun. Apply sunscreen and wear clothes that can protect their skin.

Being aware of basic health precautions. This includes keeping yourself hydrated by drinking recommended amount of clean and safe water.  Try to move, stretch and get up every hour in order to avoid blood clotting. Use sanitizer and wash your hands as often as possible to avoid catching germs.  See to it that you are able to take a rest while traveling.

Following your medication.  Make sure to take your medications as scheduled.  Bring your prescription as well as your doctor's information as well.
